the first answer is on external render ..so it does not apply ..in the UK the plaster itself has to be of a predetermined quality ..and for building regs to a minimum thickness of between 10 and 12mm for base coat and approx 3 to 5mm for skimming ...it not only has to help with soundproofing but all so fire retardant ..so you can see .its important to get it right

Yes there are, your tolerances varey with climate settings, coastal settings and personal preference, i.e sound proofing arbatorioum, interior, exterior. the common thickness for load bearing exterior walls is 7/8 of an inch over 1/8 thick galvanized lath, using portland cement and type s, hydrated lime at a 28 day compression period will give you 120 psi per sq ft for load bearing. interior depends on application, vaneer, traditional, or synthetic hope this helps.

In the UK, no. I suspect the above answer is not in the UK.
There are BS standards for the raw paster and mix, but not the application.
