I need an example of constant speed, constant velocity and constant acceleration

To be more specific, I want you guys to tell me the constant speed, constant velocity and constant acceleration on a roller coaster

Acceleration out of the brake house as you leave the station. It's just gravity that pulls you.

Once engaged on the lift hill, you generally will be at a constant speed or velocity. On some rides though, this speed does vary, but on most it's constant.

Then, as you exit the lift hill, you typically deccelerate just a tad until you crest the highest hill. At that point, you again accelerate as you go down the first drop. Generally, during the drop you'll not only accerate and increase velocity, but you'll have constant acceleration.

At the bottom of the hill is usually the max speed that you'll reach.

After that point, it's just more acceleration/decceleration as you go up and down the rest of the ride. As you go through flatter areas, you'll have a pretty constant speed/velocity.

The first bit all depends on you frame of reference. You could say that a satellite (like the Earth) is traveling around the central point at a constant speed, yet constantly accelerating toward it. You can't say that for velocity, though, as it also specifies direction. (Unless you want to get tricky and start talking about curved space.) Someone before mentioned an object in free fall, but I disagree with that. It's still experiencing a force from gravity, but that force is being opposed so there is no resultant force, and thus, no acceleration. I think it's not possible to accelerate while maintaining a constant velocity. Part 3: simple. If something is accelerating in the opposite direction to the way it's traveling, it will come to a stop, the start moving in the other direction. Like, as mentioned above, a ball thrown up in the air.

Velocity, refers to a rate of movement, such as MPH miles per hour, meters per second, feet per second, ect.

A constant speed, would be you traveling in your with the cruse control on at a steady speed (ie: 25 MPH, 65 MPH, as long as you aren't slowing down, (hitting the break), or accelerating (hitting the gas) and your speed remains at 25 mph for a set amount of time your speed is constant


Acceleration is expressed in meters per second squared or m/s^2 or feet per second squared ft/s^2 (unit of distance per unit of time squared) Why is it squared because as time increases the acceleration increases, just like if you drop a ball off a high roof it starts off slow, but by the time it hits the ground it is traveling much faster then it was at the top of the fall.

Acceleration can also be negative like -5 m/s^2, meaning if you were in the car and applied the breaks your acceleration would be negative....this is more commonly referred to as deceleration .

So an example of positive acceleration would be if you were in your car going 25 MPH and hit the gas and reached a speed of 30 MPH you would have accelerated, if you kept the car moving at a steady pace of 30 MPH then you would have a constant velocity of 25 MPH

constant speed is where you are travaling at the same speed for any period of time

constant velocity is constant speed as well as change in derection over a period in time

constant acelleration is a constant change in speed over a period of time
