Well in the days of old since there was a "gas shortage", the goverment institued a way of saving gas was actually having people go slowly thus preserving gas. In addition to safety reasons as well, since most crashes happen around 65 MPH and up. I am just interested in hearing peoples opinions on this, its for a project for my cousin.

houston?

It didn't work then, it won't work now.

people will still drive 75 and the cops will let them.

back then I talked to cops I randomly saw and asked them if they'd pull someone over for driving 75 in a 55. most of them laughed and talkd out of the side of their mouths at me and tell me that they have more important things to do than to enforce the new speed limit.

I can't drive 55!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think so, and even with speed limits of 70 mph, you still have jack asses hitting 80-90. It is just dangerous to reduce the speeds because I obey the speed limit and I am always being swarmed by rush hour traffic.

It is important to understand that the U.S. Federal Government does *not* set speed limits nor do they have the constitutional authority to do so. The way it works is as follows: The Federal Government threatens hold federal money from States who do not obey their demands. Very few States have the backbone to stick it to the Feds and tell them to shove it, so the States pander to the Fed's wishes and individually lower speed limits.

It would cost us also by putting the speed limit back to 55. Time IS money.
