the volume of a cube is its length^3. Therefore, the first cube with a 1 cm edge has a volume of:

V=L^3
V=(1 cm)^3
V=1 cm^3

If the length is doubled,
V=L^3
V=(2 cm)^3
V=8 cm^3

Therefore, the answer is that the volume is multiplied by 8.
