5.15.07: the gays in san francisco are having a rally tonight to celebrate jerry falwell's death. falwell was a christian conservative who died today.

you who are gay say that your way of life is right. even if falwell didn't agree, wouldn't you say that such conduct is pretty hateful?

one more question: how many of you agree that you carry the "gene" that makes you homosexual? if you do not think you do, then wouldn't you say your gayness is a matter of choice? if it's a matter of choice, then what's wrong with straights opposing it? i.e., what is wrong with anyone at all being in opposition to what you think is correct?

so far, i have read through dabende's answer. so far, i basically feel a sort of seething discrimination against ME. i hold nothing against anyone other than he who would harm me. nothing at all. but new scientific evidence proves that it is not a "genetic" (and i do mean that word, precisely) condition. it's ok if you have felt that way since birth. i am questioning whether you feel it is choice rather than genetics, that's all. as for mr. farwell, well, he was what he was. i never heard him mention gays viciously, though, not with hate or spite. and i feel that gay people don't have to make it SO VERY PUBLIC. who cares? gays have equal rights everywhere in this country other than in the armed services, and even that is changing. sexuality...is a very beautiful expression of ourselves as adults, the best gift adults have. very few people that are not gay are bigoted against gays or even against other races. believe me: i've been around and have lived longer than most of u.

I think he was terrible for saying the things he said, but I'm not going to celebrate. It reflects poorly on us, and sets a bad example of hate and disrespect.

About whether being gay is genetic: does that make a difference? The main issue is that it is not something that people can easily decide to be or not be. It's like being left-handed. Who cares if it's genetic or not -- just as long as the person can still function in society.

And what's wrong with people opposing it is that it amounts to bullying. It makes people hate themselves for something they can't change, it instills guilt, it encourages others to be hateful, it promotes discrimination.

Well, if your a Christian and believe that Jerry Falwell was a good upstanding Christian, then you should be celebrating. Pop open a bottle of champagne and drink to his death.

I mean, after all, if he was a good Christian and now he is dead, then he would be in heaven with God. What could be better than that?

Personally, I don't think he made it. I think he's in purgatory.

Yes, being gay is something your born with.

Even if it were a choice, so what. If it's not directly affecting you then you don't have a right to impact anyone else's freedom now do you? You can do whatever you want until if impacts someone else's freedom of expression.

When you try and force laws to oppose, deny or penalize people for being gay, you are taking away their rights to be who they are.

well Falwell offended the sensibilities of far more than the gay community. He was ignorance personified. I wouldn't hold a party to say goodbye...that's usually called a wake and done after the funeral...
I don't know what makes me homosexual...I do know that I have felt this way since birth. It was never a matter of choice for me. I could care less if you think I am wrong in my choice of sexual partners. But I'm really interested in why you would care. You are sort of saying..'I like people...but not the green ones...no, no, I don't care for them.' Whatever we are sexually we are all part of the human condition...the spectrum of our species is what has made us successful.

I never cared for what little I heard him preach, and I think that he had much to say that was an aberration to Christianity, but I don't have a grudge against the guy. His family must be missing him.

By the way, I'm not a lib.

EDIT: If saying that DNA makes someone Gay is an error, then I would say that thinking oneself moral is another error.

Jerry Falwell is one reason I quit the Republican Party when he became a prophet of the GOP (Gods Only Party).

I didn't know who he was. My mom said that he did a lot of good for the country, but when I found information on-line about him I have to admit I was kind of happy. I feel bad now because I don't think anyone should be happy about someone dying.

I opened a bottle of wine to celebrate tonight. The man was disgusting. The world is better for his absence from it.
