I hate replacing parts that are not bad. I pulled the EGR valve and it looks fairly clean. no heavy carbon. I also responds to a voltage input and produces an output. So at least it isn't fully stuck. But I keep getting a P0172 and I think a P0170 trouble code and the traction control lights with the check light. Indication bank too right. Is there any way to be certain that it is the EGR without trial and error?????????

thx

you have a fuel trim code. EGR is could cause it but that's not likely. check fuel pressure and go from there

I assume you are talking about a V6 model by saying "bank too right". I for one, have never seen a EGR valve fail on a Honda (not saying they don't, but I have never replace one after working on them for years). Most of the EGR problems on Honda V6's is carbon build up in the manifold. What I do to fix them is simple. Remove the valve, take compressed air and blow out the two orfices in the manifold. Clear the code and send it down the road. Occasionally the car will come back a few days or weeks later and I have to do it again. Never had one come back a thrid time.

Honda published a technical service bulletin on this very problem. Their repair, while I am sure effective, is labor intensive and also requires taking a drill to the aluminum intake manifold, which I am not to crazy about doing.

Disconnect both battery cables so it takes the check engine light off and see if the code still comes back. Also make sure there is not a crack in any of the Emission lines that connect to the EGR or PVC
