because doing something to help others is not part of most people's nature...it is too hard, and the results dont show on the outside...it is something too deep for most people today to even fathom to volunteer... some people dont even get it that sports are strictly entertainment... diversion and distraction from the really important things that are going on around them, or in the world...

I love my Spurs and am as appalled as anyone at some of the stuff going down in this series. Arguing about sports takes away people's pressure I guess.

I try to use what I see happening on the basketball court to help my 7th and 8th graders see that fighting isn't always the answer and that winning and losing gracefully means so much more than the prize.

I am with you, I wish more people would unite for a cause, any cause that will make our country a better place. A lot of people here should try to invest something in kids with learning issues, they have a lot to offer the world. Getting off my soap box.

One of the reasons people love sports is that they can invest total dedication and passion in their teams, and suffer absolutely no consequences for their actions. Their teams win or lose, but it has absolutely no affect on their lives.

Getting involved helping people is another matter altogether. It actually takes time to get off one's butt to go out and actually make a difference in people's lives. That's a step most people don't want to take, because it's a "real world" thing, as opposed to the fantasy world of sports.

Why did sports become so popular when Rome fell? PS: I agree with you innuendo.
