I am moving from alabama to california and i want to tow my X5 and move our household goods. Uhaul and almost every other place has told me that my car weighs too much. Is there any other way to tow it, or do we have to suck it up and drive seperately?

I definitely think a Ford F350 Super Duty or similar kind of pickup truck with a suitable vehicle trailer would be able to get the job done. The kind of vehicle trailer you need mounts on the truck bed rather than a tow hitch. It needs to be braked, of course.
I've seen them on the roads, but I couldn't tell you where you could rent them.

Another option is to contact a car carrier company who will take care of it for you. ($$$)

Of course, a flatbed would do it too... if you can find a company that rents it. National car rental has flatbeds for rent in Canada, but not in the US surprisingly.

You would be better off sucking it up and driving seperatly. BMW's arent meant to be towed by 2 wheels. A BMW dealership will tell you to tow the car on a flat bed.

For a different idea, you go get a towable trailer and hook that to the X5 so that both cars were hauling something.

Just an idea.

There should be a moving company willing to do this. My friend and his family moved from California to Maryland with a Lexus LX470,an Escalade, and a Mercedes S600. These all weigh more than the X5. Look around, you may have to pony up some more money, but you should be able to find someone who will do it.

Uhaul just doesn't want you to thats all. your X5 doesn't weight anymore then my bob cat i pull it with my 2500hd all the time. Problem is the gass would kill you. to pull it behind you. i think they are thinking your loading the moving truck and pulling a big car. if it was just the X5 no issue. issue is loaded moving van + X5. check out www.freightquote.com or something like that htere are others that do cars. dont know if freightquote does cars. might be worth the mony to have it sent out.

Best way to do it is to suck it up and drive separtely, or you can ask your BMW company/dealer if they have tow trucks willing to do that.
