So far only the smart folks are answering-I hope everyone else wakes up and smells the coffee-and makes the decision to drive less, drive a little slower and the next car bought will be better on mileage.

I drive less. I moved so I would be closer to work. Now I live within 2 miles of my job rather than 20 miles away.

I also traded in my Cadillac for a Saturn. At $3.00/gallon (my average local price right now), I pay about $40.00 a month for gas.

I'm one who is driving less , I used only a quarter of a tank all last month and have only put 3,000 miles on my car in 2 1/2 years so I am paying much less than the 25,000 miles I used to a few years back . I moved to an area where all my needs can be met without driving a long distance for anything . As you said the oil companies will consider 47% of people driving the same amount a boon at the prices they are charging and we will pay more for those 47 % until they cut back.

The obscene profits that the OIL companies make these days should be against the law (but - as long as there are two oilmen in the Oval Office - that's not about to happen). These oil barons deserve to be tarred and feathered. But, their billions of dollars in profits will eventually be invested in "alternative fuel" products - but only after they've drained every dollar they can out of OIL, and only after the independent "little guys" have taken the risks to enhance the demand for such fuels. Once the market is ready, 'big oil' will buy out the 'little guys' and raise the prices (and the profit margins) to the consumer. There oughta' be a law! -RKO- 05/15/07

In 2005 I used to drive 20 miles round trip to work and back.

From 2006 and now I only drive 4.2 miles round trip to work and back.

I rarely drive more than 10 miles to go shopping for groceries or any other needs.
