Why is it that so many things people don't believe and so they say "if it were true, it would be all over news!" ARE TRUE and AREN'T all over the news?

I mean can you really count on the media to bring you the news that Americans might want to know about?

Is the attitude that "if its important, it would be all over the news" an intelligent outlook to adopt???

Actually a lot that happens doesn't get on cable news channels or network news casts because 1) news broadcasts are driven by ratings, 2) and most countries focus on their own internal politics and the rest of the world only as it impacts them. Even newspapers select different news stories according to their audience. Europeans, however, typically know more about what is happening in the United States than most Americans do about the rest of the world.

Sometimes what the networks broadcast and newspapers publish reflects public opinion, but sometimes it doesn't. The news is also slanted a different way in different countries and different cultures or political viewpoints within a country. Readers can easily discover this if they look at several sources even from countries of similar cultures, for example, scanning both a British news source, such as "The [London] Times" or "Manchester Guardian" as well as an American one, such as "The New York Times" and "The Washington Post", for a few weeks. In addition to scanning Yahoo for news, I often also go to the BBC website.

Excellent point!
It seems as though all of the news Chanel's come up with the same stories. I know there is more out there than some celebrity hooked on drugs, etc.. I wish they would cover many different and important stories. It is pretty frustrating sometimes to have to dig for the truth. I do like Truthout and a couple of other Internet news sources.

The control of information is as important to the Bush Administration as the military and financial aspects of this supposed "war on terror".

They have not yet been able to control the internet.

Dig deep and search by subject for information. Don't browse the top news sites, they are filtered and censored.

(That attitude is like saying: "if it were BAD for you, they wouldn't SELL it to you" Ha ha ha).

The only way your going to hear it is got to the Bill O'Reilly show, thats where the truth is. It amazes me when some idiot says the man is a liar. Not true at all and he proves everything he says.

Sometimes important news is published on page seven and quietly goes away before many people even find out about it.

No, not if it were contrary to the liberal agenda. Yes, if it could be an excuse for big government to put more restrictions on our freedom.

No. I am afraid that there is a lot that we need to know but never will until it's too late.
