call your clerk of courts office and they should be able to direct you how to do that. There is usually a small fee, (couple hundred dollars) but dont forget you have to get a new license, passport, will change, mortgage change. etc. it can add up but its worth it!

The only cost involved is the cost to replace your drivers license. You just take your divorce decree to the social security office and ask them to re-register your number with your maiden name. You legally have the right to go back to this name.
Then you take the decree and the receipt over to the DMV and change your name there. Take you birth certificate as a back up to your maiden name if you have it, though it probably will not be necessary. Then you have to contact your bank, credit card accounts, mortgage co, and any other accounts that have your married name on them and send a copy or show them your newly issued drivers license with the new name on it and some may want a copy of your ss card too. Don't forget to show them at work also so they can change your name on payroll, at the Dr and dentist office, etc, etc.
It is more a pain in the rear than it is expensive but worth it!

In California it isn't that expensive. You have to change your social security card first, which is free I believe (maybe a small amount like $15), then after that you can change your driver's license. CA won't let you change anything before you do your SSN. The drivers license fee is like $22. The hardest part will be changing your car if you have a lein holder on it, I kept my maiden name on my car until I sold it because dealing with the bank and the dmv was just too difficult. I don't think it's that expensive at all, you just need the proof of the divorce (court documents) and it's handled pretty quickly, though a PAIN for you. Good luck.

Go to your local social security office with your social security card, photo id & divorce papers. The cost is minimal. Here it is a 20 dollar filing fee. they will have you fill out a small form and sign an affadavit attesting that you are telling the truth are are who you profess to be. You will meet with a rep who will ask you why you are changing your name & it'll be done.
I was in the social security office less than 10 minutes when I changed my name.
A lawyer is not needed.
Good luck!

i don't know how much it costs now. my mother did this about 10 years ago and it was $400 in the State of Ohio.
it probably varies from state to state.
you'll have to go to through the courts to do this. call the clerk of courts in your county and ask about the process. they can let you know whether you need an attorney, or can simply fill out forms and pay the fee.
take care

It depends on if you legally changed your name when you got married or if you just started using the new name. Call your local city hall, they'll be able to tell what to do and how much it will cost.

Often in the divorce decree your name is automatically changed. Read it over.
You should be able to just go back to it. Just start using it. Change it at the bank, dmv, etc.
Best of luck.
Peace

i really dont know the amount it would cost since we are of different country, i presume, but it will cost a lot, especially dealing with court cases concerning change of names, coz you have to change all the legal documents that you have, try consulting a legal council for you to be guided about this matter

go to the SS office with a copy of your divorce papers. doesn't cost you anything. the DL might cost to change it, but the banks, etc will just do it for free.
