Menstruation is usually effected by your food, environment.
Brain dudes think the reason menstruation is starting to soon these days is due to our excessively rich diet.
Menstruation at 19 does not seem right. but it can happen. It is common for gymnasts or other athletes that start to young to stop the development of the menstrual cycle. some college athletes will even lose their cycle during extreme training.
If the individual is not an athlete i would go with drugs, or a medical condition.

It's later than most but not all that odd either. I have a cousin who didn't start until she was 15 or 16 but the rest of us started anywhere from 11 to 13. Might not hurt to go to a GYN and get checked anyway, just to play it safe.

Well, it's not NORMAL but it's not like she could schedule that, ya know? If she were an anorexic it could happen, but she'd have to be that way for years. If she were (as the other posters said) very athletic with little body fat, it can happen...and it could mean she has a problem that needs to be checked by a gynocologist.

It's not typically seen, but it isn't to old. You are just a late bloomer. Some girls get their periods early and others do not. It depends on the person and their body.

If this young lady hasn't started menstruating yet, I would take her to the doctor, just to be sure everything works the way it is supposed to. { I have several friends/aquaintainces who have abnormal 'plumbing structures'; two required constructive surgery.}

Well since she should be seeing her gyno starting at 18, the doc would be able to tell her if there is anything wrong with it or not.
