Newbies to the USA often have a hard time learning the different languages and the cultures of all the different people. They say English is the hardest language to learn because of the excessive exceptions. Don't fear. You have to make friends - ONE AT A TIME. You will never win everyone over - but you can win one person. Observe people. Smile. Present yourself as a pleasant person (and don't swear at people in your language) The thing with Americans is when you come to this country, we expect you to learn the language and not speak your own with your own group -I know it's a comfort zone, but people think you are talking about them - so they don't trust you. Find one person that you can talk to. Be honest and let them know that you are having a hard time adjusting and want to make friends, but are unsure. People are symphathetic, they will understand when you come with the truth. Be friendly - get involved in activities, etc. and allow people to get to know you. I am sure you will find some friends soon and this time next year - you'll be writing about something else. Good luck to you. (P,S. Ask your teachers to help you. I am a teacher and sometimes when we have new students, I will assign a student to be a peer partner to help them get acclaimated to the new school. I will also try to incorporate my lessons to include the new student so that he or she can share information from their own country. ) I hope this helps you and good luck.

it upsets me when people are so inconsiderate of others. I was made fun of really bad in high school bc/ I was aloof, wierd, and I had cool/pretty/popular sisters and brothers. This made me so shy even though at my first school I was very outgoing. What took me so long to understand was that people are weak. They are all trying to find acceptance and will follow the crowd even if it is at the expense of another person. The best you can do is to truly find out who you are and be whoever you are to the best of your ability. Some people may feel threatened bc/ they don't understand you or they may even be jealous. Just don't ever stoop to their level or what you hate could end up being what you see in the mirror. Finally, I learned quickly that the least i could do to get people off my back is ignore them and then when they see they can't hurt me - they just leave me alone. You will find friends and people to accept you if you are just cool with being yourself.

In passing make sure you make eye contact, smile and keep walking. Let people know your out there but not out there. Never whisper around like kind while in hearing distance of the people you don't want to offend. Stop someone and ask for the time even though you don't need it and say thank you with a big smile!

Just try not to let it bother you. Sometimes people can be mean when someone is different, but it's usually because they're scared of people that are not like them. After they are around you for awhile and get to know you better, hopefully they will relax and start treating you nicer.
Also, even though it is difficult, try to get involved in activities that will put you in contact with people more. The more they see you, the faster they will get to know what a nice person you are, and the faster they will learn to like you and be nice to you.

I think I know what you're talking about. You have to accept that people make fun of others because they have esteem issues. You should continue to work on learning English and practice it. I wouldn't encourage you to speak your language in front of foreigners because that breed contempt. Before long, you'll be ok & fit in just fine. Don't worry too much.
