Use a professional letter template like from MS Word.

First Paragraph should simply state who you are, what your position is, and in what professional capacity you know the employee. You should also state that you are writing to recommend him as an employee

2nd Paragraph - Indicate how long the employee was employed at the company and what their title was. Go into an overview of what the employee's specific job responsibilities were and how the employee performed them. If the employee received any special recogonition...like employee of the month or some sort of award..indicate that too and why they received it.

Third Paragraph - Indicate what you feel are the employees best attributes and skills and what you feel are the kinds of roles that they would excel in.

Conclusionary paragraph - Offer up your contact information incase the potential employer would like additional information

You should keep this all to fit on one page. It's also always a good sign if you add something in there about how you would hire them again if you had the chance. This speaks volumes. Good luck.

Here are samples of testimonials:

"I continue to find Writing to Win an excellent program for teaching the writing process."

J. Ferguson, teacher

"Other management programs provide the bones of an instructional program, but Writing to Win fills in the meat of instruction with exciting instruction tools and strategies."

S. Waits, assistant principal

"What a relief. In our third year of training, my new classes of seventh graders actually reminded me of the details of an effective process-writing routine. They insisted on using red pens for revising their own first drafts. I was amazed. Writing to Win conditions students to habits they remember for years to come."

K. Huggins, teacher

"The teaching strategies of the Writing to Win program are so simple and easy to use. I wish I'd been using them for years."

J. Rogers, writing consultant

"Writing to Win journal writing is an awesome tool when used correctly. I see my students synthesizing what they have learned in their own words. Shared journal entries turn into clarifying and productive classroom discussions."

C. Rosa, principal

"Our teachers are proud of the success we have had in writing, and they are quick to attribute that to Writing to Win."

Dr. P. Stokes, superintendent of schools

"My first grader has LOVED your Writing to Win program and has produced remarkable writing both through her school and spontaneously at home!"

C. Pearlman, parent and teacher

"Writing to Win gets amazing results when the whole school is involved. We have developed what I consider a culture of writers. Each and every class begins with journal writing, which allows teachers to evaluate students' attainment and understanding of concepts. Students write to learn through journals and learn to write in language arts classes."

Dr. G. Ackridge, assistant principal

"Getting a handle on WORKABLE revision activities any teacher can use--that is a dream come true for me."

M. Dunklee, curriculum director
