You wind up in a location with a laditude 90 degrees offset from your own, and a longitude 180 degrees offset from your own. For instance, at my location (appx 38N 77W), I would wind up at 52S 103E, which would be in the Southern Indian Ocean (which would be wet!!).

You would get REAL dirty.
You would make a BIG pile of dirt near where you started. The pile would be taller than Mt Everest.
Your drilling rig, bit or shovel would melt before you got more than 10 miles down (and you have 8000 miles to go.....). After 20 miles it woul dbe pretty soft stuff - everything is molten lava (we think). There is a good chance the very center of the earch is somoe kind of liquid/lid metal - that would be tough to get thru.
Halfway it would be downhill, and you would fall it. Then getting out would be tough, because it would all be uphill.
At the center the earth's gravity would be ZERO.
If you could build such a tunnell, and remove al the air, you could drop a ball into it - it would fall to the other side of the world and stop just at the surface, then it would fall back in the hole and return to you on your side.
Or you could jump in - do the same yourself - THE ULTIMATE BUNJEE without a cord!!!! Way cool - let's do it.

You are right right now it would be impossible b/c the pressure would crush you and the heat would burn you up, besides what you mentioned about going through the core. However, I found a website once that showes you where you'd come out on the otherside of the Earth. I live in Ohio and it came out in the Pacific east of Australia (sorry I don't remeber the website).

Things would start getting hot at about 5000 ft down or less in areas where the crust is thin -Yellowstone. Molten rock -lava would erupt out eventually which would curtail any further digging!
If it was possible you would come out in another country or in the sea - have a look at a globe of the world to see whats on the other side from where you are!

humans would suffocate half-way through the process and slowly die before they find out what exactly happens.bummer.only prairie dogs and similar underground rodents can dig through the center of the earth because they are more adapted to the underground environment and probably have pockets of air stored in the cheeks of their furry face.if only they could talk, then we can ask them to tell us where on earth the stash of treasure is hidden.
