with an ohm meter put the leads first on the positive and negative poles there should be little or no resistance
now put one on the positive the other where the coil wire is at note the reading
do the same for the negative pole and the coil wire spot they should be the same resistance
if they are way off from even replace the coil, if they read the same or verry close i would look elseware for a problem

Testers for spark are available at most parts stores or pull the wire off the center post of the coil--the ignition wire--and hold it with an insulated pliers very close to the nipple that it plugs onto but not touching, while someone cranks the car...you should see a bright blue spark jump from the wire to the coil. If not or a weak spark, the coil is bad. Or be a man and hold it with your hand....ouch, that's gonna sting. And try testing it when engine is cold and hot...some problems arise with heat.

Use a volt Ohm meter and they have a certain spec they have to fall into.
I believe advance and Auto Zone test them for free.

remove it..take it to the parts store and they can test it for you...on most cars very simple.
