Were the Beastie Boys a rock band or a rap group? To me I think of them as a rock band than a rap group.

Not everyone knows but when they first started they were a punk band. They released one punk album the name slips my mind but it's very rare. After that they changed to hip hop but still kept their interest in rock and thats why the early hip hop stuff had guitars which were all played my them. So they are a rock influenced hip hop group.
