I doubt it's the light, that's pretty much normal for any fish the first few days in a new tank. It should be out and swimming around happy in just a few days.

Whenever I turn the lights on my guppy tank, they immediately hide. However, if I stay away from the tank and leave them alone for a while, they'll come out a swim around like normal. I'd say your goldfish is probably just afraid of you, and can see you when the light comes on. You're much bigger than it is, it's feels threatened and has to hide. Try leaving the light on and getting far away from the tank and just watching for a while. Your goldfish should come out and act normal again.

It sounds like your goldfish isn't use to the light yet. Give it time, it will get use to it as time goes on. My goldfish still doesn't like it really well when I turn on the light over the tank, so maybe it's just a goldfish thing also. Hope that helped.

when i had goldfish they always seemed to like it when i turned on the aqarium light, but if he's used to the dark then it might take a while for him to get used to a light. give it a couple of days, im sure he'll come around.
Maybe once he's used to the light, you can train him so when its time to feed him, you turn on the aquarium light and he'll come up to the top expecting food.
good luck!

i dont think so, whenever i turn on the light for my fish tank, all my fish and frogs hide. but if we leave it on, after a few minutes the fish and frogs come out and swim. i think you should just let the fish get used to it after a few minutes.

Contrary to the myth fish can only remember for three seconds, fish are intelligent creatures. Your fish could not yet be used to its new surroundings and might be hiding from a could be predator. Also if he was with other fish and is now in solitude he could be a little lonely.
