Try a Center for Independent Living, also known as CIL, or ILC. They are located in all 50 states. They offer free services to people with disabilities. Here is a link to a directory:

I am not an attorney, but I work as a Disability Advocate at a Center in Boise, Idaho. I have helped people with SS paperwork, and even attended appointments with people.

Unfortunately the are called attorneys. (just being straight forward) They will usually petition on your behalf for a percentage, which means that they will drag it out. The average of being denied is three times. Tell your friend to keep trying. It sounds to me you could be their advocate, you are already trying. Tear up the Internet and you will find a lot of free help in the government agencies. If you don't succeed the first time TRY,TRY,TRY again!--best wishes and fortune!

Hi

Your friend can appeal the Social Security decision, but he must appeal very quickly, as there is a short time period of appeal.

Be sure that when he reapplies, that he as much information about his medical condition, and be very frank in how it affects his day to day living.

I have included some links for you to talk to a lawyer, who deal specific to SSI claims.

An attorney. They often charge but get the job done. I applied but I guess I was in bad shape. My Federal Disability was approved the first time around.
