Put them through a hot wash with bleach if they're white. If colored, Tide with bleach alternative is my favorite.

If you're like me and have a front-loading machine, make sure the machine isn't smelling. I found odors in my towels and even some shirts and ended up having to treat the machine. I dry out any water collected by the door, and I spray it with this stuff called Approach. I spray the inside, the door, the water trap, everything, and I leave the door open to dry the interior. Haven't had a problem since.

Good luck!

If you're brave, you can use ammonia but not too much. Tide works pretty good but not above and beyond. Vinegar is probably the best or bleach if the towels are white. Oxyclean helps greatly as well. Also, once dried, try not to stack them on top of each other. If in a bathroom that has no fan or window, the mildew smell will most definitely come back. Towels need room to 'breath' and dry properly and completely after each use in the shower. Even while taking a shower, other towels can get a little damp if there is no ventilation.

I positioned the bleach and detergent in jointly as the nice and comfortable water substitute into filling up then i extra the towels. That have been given rid of it and we've darkish blue towels and that they have got been super. to stay away from this from coming back draw close them up until they dry.

I would soak them if they are white in the washer filled with hot bleach water, let soak about 30 min. then wash as you would any load.
If they are colored towel I would wash them and then hang them out to air dry. Hanging cloths outdoors in the sun for a whole day kills alot of bacteria.

Put them in the washer with a lot of soap (preferably Tide w/bleach) and let them soak overnight. Once the cycle is done, wash them again. This should work. It did on mine. You could also add something smelly to the rinse water. A little perfume maybe.

Fill up the washing machine with hot water and a good detergent and let it sit in the soapy mix for about a half hour and then run them thru the cycles. 20 Mule Borax works good with your soap

If your towels are white, you can use chlorine bleach. (Follow directions on bottle) If they are colored towels, you can use color-safe bleach. (follow directions on the package). Double rinse and then add a nice smelling fabric softener.
