Not long ago, my new husband moved in along with his 3 cats. We have a Jack Russel. of course, they don't get along. Anybody have any ideas on how to get them to at least not always be hissing and growling at each other. 2 of the 3 cats are declawed.

first you need to introduce them slowly.
put the dog in a crate or a room and let the cats get there sent in the house. alot of has to do witht he ages of the animals. in my house I have 3 cats and 2 dogs and 2 ferrets and a hamster. as far as my dog and cat i have a baby gate up where the cats can get in the bathroom away fronm the dogs it's there persoal safty spot.
Also if you can the dog is yours and the cats are his so you hald the cat and let him hold the dog and let them know it's ok if either gets to wirey or hissing tell them no and reward when they are being good
also it willtake time for tehm to set up there hiarchy and just let them work it out. Like all kids ( 2 legged or 3 legged) there will be spats from time to time

Separate them to different rooms. Take a clean towel and spend several minutes rubbing the dog with it then put it near or under the cats food dish. Do the same thing with the cats. Keep them separated for a few weeks.Teach your dog the "Leave It" command(meaning ignore/leave alone the cats) The biggest problem with cat/dog relations is the prey drive. JRT's have a very high energy prey drive. This will take time. Always have an area for the cats that is off-limits for the dog. Start interactions for short periods of time with the dog on a leash(No chasing!) After you see improvement extend the amount of time they are together. My household contains 2 high energy Aussie mixes, 5 cats, and a bird. They all live together reasonably well as long as the dogs mind their manners.(cats will gladly swat them for major infractions of the cat/dog house rules)
