for a lip ring what is the best gauge size to get? i was thinking maybe a 18? is that too big? i dont want to get one that is too thin but i dont want to get one that is going to leave a big scare when i get older and diside to take it out. i really need sombody that know what they are talking about to anwer this. like a pro piercer or somebody with a lip ring

14 is usually the standard. I have one and that is what size it is. The hole is really small when you take it out so there should be minimal scarring, as long as you get it done by a pro and take care of it properly.

18ga is way too small. Some piercers will do 16ga, but even that is a little too small (the difference between the two is barely noticable). I pierce lips at 14ga as a standard. I will go larger if the client asks for it, but not smaller. Lips take a fair bit of abuse from eating, kissing, talking, etc. and small gauge jewelry is just asking for problems. 14ga won't leave too large of a scar (provided the piercing is taken care of properly) and most people find it's barely noticable about 6 months after removing the jewelry.

labret piercings are generally done at 14g (1.6mm) or 16g (1.2mm), 16g is generally used for women ('petite'). anything's going to leave a scar, but obviously the smaller you go for the smaller the scar will be, as long as it heals well.
