There is also the AIDS epidemic (that is what Jenny supposedly dies of) and the plight of disabled Vietnam vets. Those thing you listed are very broad, and some of them are explored very deep in the movie. Don't forget the reference to Apple as the "fruit company" Lt. Dan invest in and the beginning of Nike. The movie is also a decent representation of the Old South and its inertia. There is also the whole anti-war moment ( I am not quite sure who the guy with the American flag shirt was supposed to be) and the huge hurricane that hits the Gulf coast thus destroying the shrimp industry.
