That's tough. The Beatles are, well, The Beatles. But, Mamas and the Papas had the best harmonies and lyrics. Janis Joplin does the best cover of 'Bridge over toubled water' I have ever heard! Ummmmm.....no, I'm gonna stick with The Beatles. They're influence on all music alone is enough.
(Could I also please add Janis Ian and Billy Joel to my list?)
:)

The Beatles...because they began the whole British Pop invasion of the early 1960's. Not that the other bands you mentioned do not have their place in music history, but none of them seemed to have the over all appeal, draw or impact that the Beatles did.

The Mamas & The Papas....they have a great, unique sound.
Jefferson Airplane is great too.

It will always be the Beatles for me! I've loved them since I first saw them on the Ed Sullivan show all those years ago. And more than 40 years later, their music still sounds fresh and vibrant.
