Tell him that you were hurt when he said that you were letting them down, so you did not tell him the reason why. Then nicely tell him why you have to quit. If he does apologize, tell him that it was not his fault; he had no way of knowing.
It will all be OK. I am sorry about your leg. Everything will be fine, you know. Just keep your spirits up.

hi kara
i am an AK amputee also, your team mates will understand why you had to quit the team as a participant, but you can go and help encourage the team to do their best.
the team mates will have questions but will be glad to see you at the meets.
i know, because after my accident, i went to visit my former co-workers and the all gave me a hug including one who never would hug any one any time. i did not even think about it when he hugged me i just felt blessed that they took time to be acknowledged with smiles and hugs.
so my advice would be to visit your old team mates, they probable know you are an amputee, someone probable informed them.
good luck and don't let the amputation keep you out of the public, because we have to live with our amputations.
if you ever want to just talk about your new amputation feel free to write me
amputee since 4-21-2005

Tell him that you are sorry but you are going to have to quit the team because of the condition you are in, and that it's been a good year with him and best wishes for the team.
I just thought of this right now so don't expect any masterpieces!

This actually is quite simple....... go into practice on your crutches, obviously, they would be able to see your leg is gone... Then you don't have to say anything, they can SEE and your coach will have some sympathy for you, understanding that you didn't really want to let the team down. However, by you not telling them the truth, that is letting them down. . . not the fact that you lost your leg.

Just tell him the truth. That you thought a lot about what he said and you wish you hadn't have had to quit, but you are no longer able to compete because of your leg.

You should have been up front and completely honest with him the first time. Now it is time to pay him a visit and let him know the whole story. You owe it to yourself to face the truth!
