I dont know what authority they have. Even without thier agreement USA, Britain and its allied attacked Iraq. So what United Nation Can do to Poor country like Ethopia if let say Italy decided to attack and conquer them. I hope it regain it respect by all nation.

supposed to fight for human rights bring peace to war torn nations stop genocide encourage bans on chemical weapons weapons in space land mines
Goals set in 2000
eradicate extreme poverty and hunger;
achieve universal primary education;
promote gender equality and empower women;
reduce child mortality;
improve maternal health;
combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases;
ensure environmental sustainability; and
develop a global partnership for development
but that dont do any of this sadly
