Having the victim carry out the punishment, one publicised recently was a young man carrying out the execution of a man who killed his father.
Who else should do it, if a death penalty is the sentence?

I think spammers should be sentenced to be at Freddie Kruger's pleasure, but he doesn't exist.

Are you people serious? Shall we go back to the Dark Ages then?

Life in prison, with no hope of early release, is the way a civilised society should handle these things.

I wonder if even most Somalis would argue that this is the the ideal solution. The problem is, that in some societies if someone kills a member of your family, you then have a 'blood debt' or a vendetta, as the Sicilians used to call it. All members of the murdered persons family have a duty to try and kill someone from the other family until this 'debt' is cleared.

Having a relative of the dead man do the execution gets that problem 'off the books' - otherwise these things can run for centuries!

In a way, this happens in all countries which execute people - everybody who pays their taxes pays for the execution, and you cannot really say that any one person is the only executioner.

Why punish the family and make them live with a death on their hands, better to reinstall a hang man

The ancient Chinese had a punishment for a particular heinous murderer:

They would lock him in a cell and everyday come in and cut off a body part. They would then boil that body part and feed it to the prisoner as his only meal. They did this until he ate himself to death.

And some of us think that our methods of capital punishment are cruel and unusual.

No, it's the behaviour of the savage and a step back into the dark ages.

Capitol punishment does not bring humanity to a higher level. While it is understandable that people want to see it used, especially for particularly heinous crimes, it is best not to follow our baser instincts.
