wiring is NOT crossed...nothing changes with switching modem or light off or on except when light is on modem has no connection but power to it is still on...qwest will not even acknowledge it COULD be anything other than the modem or the setup even though i have tried 2 different modems & same problem & NOTHING else affects connection at ANY other time other than problem mentioned

You might want to check the wiring to the plug and the light. It sounds as though the AC plug you are using is crossed with that light circuit to me. That could be a real problem if it is misswired. I have seen alot of house with wiring that isn't exactly like it should be. (Qwest wouldn't work on house wiring.)

To see turn the light on and see if power to the modem goes out.. if it does CALL AN ELECTRICIAN!

If all the electrical is correct then its possible the phone line runs very near the light wiring and is picking up interferance from the light. This happens with flourescent lights and ethernet lines in offices more often than anyone wants to admit!

Is there an electrical outlet in that room that might be connected to the same switch as the light? A phone jack or phone wiring passing through that room?

If this is the only switching that causes this, get an electrician to check it's wiring, or better replace it completely. The kind of effects you are seeing might be an indication of more serious problems. You don't want to risk an electrical fire.
