Ive just applied for a new job at £18,000 a year and it says I get 15% shift allowance, what dows it mean? Can anyone help me please.

I think, but don't quote me on this!
if you work unsociable hours, IE. between the hours of 2200hrs and 0600hrs, you will get extra cash!
If you work these hours at weekends/bank holidays, you will earn more!
But as i said, do not quote me on this!
Companies differ!

It's extra $$$$ for working shifts that are not 8 or 9 AM to
4 or 5 PM. I love the later shifts. Good luck.
L18,000 is about 35,000 US$ SWEET>

Some companies offer an extra bonus since your job may involve working hours outside of the 9-5 thing.

shift allowance, most places pay shift allowance, its a way of giving extra pay for people who do shifts, some people get night allowance, basically its a way of an employer, giving you more and being able to claim it as a perk of the job on their tax, 15% on top isn't bad.

a shift allowance is extra pay for working either 2nd or 3rd shift, for instance a person working 1st shift might be making$8.78 on first shift but the second dshift worker would get about 8.88 while the 3rd shift worker would be making about 8.95 per hour

It means this is NOT a "9 to 5" job = you will be working shifts.
Since no mention of Night Shift allowance, I expect they run 2 shifts, Early (eg. 6am - 2pm) & Late (eg. 2pm - 10pm) [in the example, if they had a Night Shift it would be 10pm-6am]
Normally you would be working alternate weeks Early / Late (i.e. one week Early, next week Late, then back to Early and so on)
