Solve the "x" variable in the equation.
First: factor the expression - multiply the 1st & 3rd equation to get 4. find two numbers that give you 4 when multiplied & 5 (2nd term) when added/subtracted. the numbers are (1 & 4). rewrite the expression with the new middle terms.
2x^2 + 1x + 4x + 2 = 0
Sec: group "like" terms & factor both sets of parenthesis.
(2x^2 + 1x) + (4x + 2) = 0
x(2x+1) + 2(2x+1) = 0
(x+2)(2x+1) = 0
Third: set both parenthesis to "0" & solve the "x" variables.
a. x + 2 = 0
subtract 2 from both sides (when you move a term to the opposite side, always use the opposite sign).
x+2-2 = 0-2
x = -2
b. 2x + 1 = 0
subtract 1 from both sides.
2x+1-1 = 0-1
2x = - 1
divide both sides by 2.
2x/2 = -1/2
x= -1/2
Solution: -1/2, -2

Step 1: Factor the polynomial: 2x^2 + 5x +2 = 0
(2x+1) (x+2)
Step 2: Check you factoring:
2X + 1
X + 2
=
4X + 2
2X^2 + X
Which = 2X^2 + 5X + 2

Factor...then use ZPP (zero product something or another)
basically..
(2x+1)(x+2)=0
to equal zero, one of the quantities has to equal zero so...
2x+1=0 or x+2=0
2x= -1 or x= -2
x= -1/2
check your work
2x^2+5x+2=0
2(-1/2)^2+5(-1/2)+2=0
2(1/4)-2.5+2=0
.5-2.5+2=0
0=0
do the same for -2

2x^2 + 4x + x + 2 = 0
2x(x + 2) + 1(x + 2) = 0
(x + 2)(2x +1) = 0
either
x + 2 = 0
x = -2
or
2x + 1 = 0
2x = -1
x = -1/2
so x = -2 or x = -1/2

(2x+1)(x+2)=0
x=-1/2, x=-2
there really aren't many steps. Just get the first term of each factor to mult. to give the 2x^2 and the 2nd's to give +2. adjust any signs as needed. Now you should try harder!

learn the x-factor. what two numbers go into a times c, and add up to b? it would equal (2x+4)(2x+1) which simplified equals (x+2)(2x+1)

(2x +1)(x+2) = 0
x = -1/2, -2
Need to factor first.
Next, any one of the factors is zero, so for example,
2x+1=0, x = -1/2
