I heard once, that people would catch monkeys by placing a nut in a bottle that had a long slim neck. The monkey I was told would place his hand in the bottle and grab the nut. but because he was now making a fist from the nut in his hand. So he was unable to slide back out of the bottle and he was to stuiped to let go. Is this true?

I have heard that claim, supposedly using olives, and usually told by someone in India, but after being in the presence of monkeys, I would doubt it. They bite viciously, and can hit, kick and scratch quite capably. After a few moments of agitation, it would let go of its prize to defend itself.

The folks in Burma use a coconut with a hole drilled in it and they put a peanut inside, when the monkey grabs the peanut he can't get his fist back out and therefore he is caught.
The coconut is tied to a bush or tree with a length of vine.
Getting the monkey loose is another matter entirely.
