I had an existing pre marriage credit card with small balance when I met my husband. After my husband and I got married, we put his debts that he had from before we even met, onto my card. If we divorce, will I be partially responsible? We live in California.

His debt is an old furniture bill he shared with his ex girlfriend. So I will have to pay for something I dont own? Now thats B.S!!!

Community property - you get half of everything, and unless he agrees otherwise, that includes the bills. He can stipulate that he will pay off any or all of said credit card, and not leave you with the bill. I hope you have an amicable divorce - otherwise I'd get a GOOD attorney!

Once you say "I do" everything becomes comunity property of the marriage and both are equally responsible for all debts in the marriage
