I had a bike registration due and decided not to pay it since I wouldn't be using the bike. In 5 months I had a collections notice from a third party collection agency telling me that the CA DMV had submitted my registration as a claim.

How is this legal? It is my bike,on my property. Not using our roads so why am I forced to register it?

Somebody sends you a bill, and you decide that you don't want to pay it, or tell them that you have any reason not to pay it, and you are surprised when they take action to collect it?

Here is a link to the affidavit of non-use you should have filed if you did not want to simply use the portion of the registration form which would have done the same thing.

Because you neglected to tell them you were no longer using it...and is it a motor bike? If so generally states have the right to regulate and make sure that all vehicles used on the roads are tracked. you didn't tell them you were no longer using it and turn in the registration or plates or whatever is used. For all they know the bike is on the road right now.

Make the fee to the sequence company. It should not be exhibiting up two times on his checklist, so tell him to dispute the reproduction get right of entry to on his credit checklist. If the creditor and/or the sequence company do no longer respond interior the dispensed time, they'll the two fall off & he won't even owe the money anymore. that is extremely worth a shot. If no longer, only pay the sequence company. The debt has been bought by using the unique creditor to them.

#1 all you had to do was file an non operational vehicile with DMV and they wouldn't have gone after you in the first place.
Its a box you check right on the registration form you got in the mail all you had to do was check the box and send it back.

The state is a business and has the right to collect the taxes it levi's to improve the roads, for them its called the license fee.

I agree with what you say, "It is my bike,on my property. Not using our roads so why am I forced to register it? ". Sounds like CA is just out to get your money any way they can. Every state that I've lived in you can own a motor vehicle, boat, etc. without registering it as long as you're not using it on public roads or waterways. Not to knock your state, but, That Sucks".

It just seems that most of your are dim witted law worshippers. The state of california acts as if it's entitled to your money and you all defend it. Legislators have essentially enslaved the workers for the benefit of state government..... and now own your money. Whey would any sane person defend this ????

Because you are obligated, by the statutes of the state of California, to pay for the bike. Pure and simple. Deal with it.

you had to notify the DMV that you were putting the vehicle in storage or that it would not be in use.
