I just saw a video from an undercover investigator about how PetSmart treats the animals they sell. It turns out that they don't provide vet care for their animals when they get sick . Instead they are taken to a back room and left to die. The video is on PETA's website. I wouldn't pay money to own an animal (except to a shelter) but from now own, I will also stop buying supplies from companies who also sell animals for profit.

I never shop at any store that sells animals. I think pet stores should sell pet supplies only! Thank you for letting people know about this!!!!!

Peta over exaggerated alot of details. Petco is worse then petsmart as far as animal care goes, i know for a fact they leave animals to die in their back rooms.. i used to work there. I guess care depends on the store. My moms been working for a single petsmart for 6 years now and she's a cleaning nut so the animals there are in brilliant condition and non of them are left to die- all go to the vet, since there is a banfields in the store. But when I did work at petsmart I tried to help feed (i worked in the groomers), cut nails, clean cages etc... just to help out because the animals had no food or water, but i got in trouble every time! I was also in petco once and I told them the rats were out of water and they said "oh yea, look at that" and they still didn't have fresh water when I left the store an hour later. So I wouldn't knock petsmart as much as petco. But like I said, Peta goes over board on there accusations.

I don't think they do but then again I don't know what goes on behind closed doors there. I bought a chinchilla from petsmart who was a happy go lucky little thing. He was a sweet animal but they may abuse their animals. If they do they should be shut down immediately.

Pet abuse is found throughout the industry, not just at Pet smart. PETA isn't the best source for treatment of animals either. They were previously on the news for killing animals that were supposed to be saved from a shelter. Adoption is a way to go though.

Don't trust anything from PETA - they frequently use propaganda to further their mission and they are often not truthful. Remember they do not support pet ownership at all.

Try and verify the story from other more reliable sources before you believe it. It is also worth checking PetSmart's website or e-mailing them and asking them for their side of the story. Then at least you've heard both sides.

Actually, my guinea pig used to be theirs, and he got sick. The policy says that after two weeks, they won't take them back if they get sick. I've had my guinea pig I bought from them for about 5 months now, and they took him back anyways. He's in the back of the store right now healing and then I'm gonna get him back. I even visited him and he looked WAY better! The conditions in the room were perfect, and you could tell my pet is healing. That movie is a bunch of Bolony!

I know that many people have pointed out that PETA's ethics and morals are more than questionable, but no one provided you with this link: http://www.petakillsanimals.com . You really should go and look at it before you make any judgements about PetSmart.

OMG!! that's so0o not cool, i used to work at petco and some of the dumb guys there would take the fish out of there tank and watch them wiggle around until there almost dead then through them back in just for fun. it was so sad i mean they were fish but imagine what else they do to other animals.

people really need to watch who they hire at places like that.

I don't trust anything PETA puts out. They are a bunch of psychos who financially support terrorist organizations like the Animal Liberation Front (ALF).
