Trees that are native to your area are best for the environment. Trees that are not from your area may need more water, fertilizer, and can attract and bring pests along with them. Native trees are adapted to the conditions in your environment and perform more efficiently than others. Nature has a delicate ecosystem. When we bring in exotic trees/plants from other places, it can have an impact. Animals rely on native plants for specific food, cover, shelter, etc. Aggressive foreign plants can crowd out native plants and keep valuable resources away from animals.

So look around you in the wild areas. What trees do you see growing? Or do some research online or at a plant nursery to find out what grows natively in your environment.

In the UK the Oak is considered the best tree for wildlife, amenity value, and timber. It is without doubt the tree with the largest number of reliant wildlife attached to it. They grow into magnificent specimens and can reach ripe old age. Oxygen production relates to leaf coverage, and it is fair to say that most trees are valuable for that purpose. We have American Red Oaks locally, planted by US Air force bomber crews during WW2, THEY LOOK GREAT.

check out / google the 'ginko' tree. It has a great fan shaped leaf and many cities plant them cause they have the ability to (without going into it) 'clean' the air. They are able to survive in urban settings and thrive.

Live get to be absolutely huge and the have TONS of surface area, so they probably could process the most CO2, not to mention the myriad of critters that can live there. They also manage to absorb and release several tons of water every day.
