I am the same exact way and its an ugly feeling because I don't want to give the impression to other people that I am boring or stuck up you know how people say a first impression is always a lasting.
What I have been doing lately and its been working for be is say this in your head Okay I'm here on earth to have fun, live, laugh right? so go on speak your mind have fun crack a joke just relax the people won't bite or hurt you in anyway they are there for either you or your surroundings. : ) this is how I think and its true you just need to relax take a deep breath and you'll be fine shake it off come on shake all the shyness away and LIVE, LAUGH, LOVE and just have a good time to the fullest.
Best Wishes to you!! : )

Try going to functions with someone you know and trust who may be a Little more outgoing than you. Let them become involved in a conversation and then you can join in. You could even enlist your friend into steering the conversation around to something that you are interested in or knowledgeable about so you will have something specific to talk about.

If you don;t want to go that route how about joining a club that focuses on an specific interest or hobby of yours. At least there you KNOW what the conversations will be about.

Do what I did...Hit on all the girls you find attractive. If you get shot down, who cares, they don't deserve a nice guy like you. If you get a good response, go with it and see where it goes. She will introduce you to all sorts of new people and she will do most of the talking. If you don't get any good responses, (took me about 40 tries before I landed a beauty) at least you won't feel awkward when meeting new people because they aren't nearly as hard to talk to as beautiful ladies. Oh, and if you are a gal, just change the situation to guys.

Well in my opinion there's one effective way. You have to realize that the majority of people are not going to judge you. You've gotta imagine being in their shoes and meeting someone for the first time, in that they'd probably love for you to be more outgoing so a conversation can be carried on and they can make new friends.

Easiest way to meet and get to know new people is to ask questions about them. Remember, everyone's favorite subject is themselves... whether they admit it or not. If you will just ask some simple questions, you will find common ground very quickly... and from there it is easy.

Imagine that they`re not humans and they are just like a few tree trunks!!!..that really helps! I have the same problem too. Don`t look at people like they are very important!!!

Walk up and introduce yourself. Read a newspaper or watch the news or just be up on current events so you can start a conversation or join in on one they are discussing.
