When I turn my laptop off I generally place it on the floor upside down so particles don't get into the vents. But someone told me that if I do that it can be bad for the hard drive, is that true?

is it turned off , or hibernating when you turn it over.. if its off, and the drive has stopped spinning , then its ok , never.... never.. never ever turn a laptop over while it is saving something playing a movie, or doing anything else or is even turned on .. i would invest in a case for the laptop to slip it into while not being used..

Storing it the incorrect way up while that is grew to become off won't do any harm. yet while that is working (and closing the lid does not inevitably close it down) that is yet another tale. because of the fact of their compact length laptops use "warmth pipes" to bypass the warmth generated by using the CPU and the GPU to the fringe of the laptop the place the air can bypass. a number of those warmth pipes use gas/liquid to circulate warmth and artwork while the laptop is in a classic place. that isn't any longer likely you will wreck the laptop by using doing this yet warmth is on no account stable for electronics. As for the battery that is complely hazard loose to put in any place. there's no chemical in liquid kind which could strikes around interior the battery. and easily no mercury for that your destiny mom in regulation is finished it.

I turn my laptop upside down when i put it in my carrying case for it so it doesn't get all scratched up on the top and it doesnt hurt it. It should be fine as long as you don't bump it or shake it to hard where it will mess the hard drive up.

Rather than turn the laptop upside down, couldn't you buy a case or cover for it. Of course you wouldn't cover or enclose it until it had cooled off.

I have a desktop with a full set of covers, purchased at Office Max or Office Depot.

in laptops that have a lot of space for hard drive heat to run out, no you shouldn't turn it upside down, if it is a dell or mac, it is ok, maybe even HP, try putting a small dry towel on it or put it in a computer bag like i do

you dont need to put the laptop upside down in order to prevent particle entering the vents

if for some reason they do, the fan should kick it out!

No. But if you're concerned, place a cloth over it instead of turning it upside down.

I don't see why it would harm the laptop. I do the same thing to let it cool down after.
