If you are looking for soemthing for a business, you might want to pay a little bit and check out http://www.designoutpost.com very professional work and pretty inexpensive, i think logos are like 50 bucks. You tell them what you want and a bunch of designers make variations of it for you to choose.

open a Word document
click, to open, the Draw toolbar
click the Autoshapes button
click Stars and Banners
click on the Star icon
you will get a crosshair
if you drag a star, it will not be "perfect"

Using text boxes, Wordart, and Autoshapes in Word, let your imagination design and draw your logo or flyer.
If this is what you like to do, you should learn more about graphics. If you right-click on a graphic or autoshape, you can change its order (send to back, front, behind text, etc.).
Wordart can be rotated, shaped, etc. It's lots of fun. Open a practice file and experiment.
