I had the same problem of getting rid of worms, adware, virsuses and spyware but the best thing that i came across was the AVG anti virus program which is free and updates itself very so often.
first-
1-go to www.download.com
2-search avg and will prompt you with different one.
3- once you come across that you can select what kind lincense in this case which would be free and the type of operating system you have.

The other one i use is spyware blaster which gets rid of everything else. This one as well is free and can be found on www.download.com you can repeat steps 1-3 on the previous statement.

enjoy

If you prefer not to pay and wish to have a free antivirus program download the free AOL Active Virus Shield, powered by Karpersky engine Russia.

Antispyware I use three. You can only use one antivirus program or you will have serious conflict with your system.

Superantispyware, known to find what all other anitspyware will miss. http://www.superantispyware.com

A2Squard Malware out of Austria. Download their free version and you will be protected from, rogue dialers, worms, malware, keyloggers, trace spyware and rouge cookies.

AdAware SE Personal out of Sweden. This antispyware company has been around since computers became commerical. In June of this year they will come out with a brand new version. Right now it is beta testing. Download their free home for personal use. http://www.lavasoft.com

All of these program I have listed for you use little or no resources.

Try AVG 7.5 for viruses, AVG Anti-Spyware for spyware. Advanced WindowsCare V2 for checking for erros, spyware etc. All free.
To find them just type the names into Google and you'll find their homes pages listed.
You can also run free online scans from: Trend Micro and McAfee computer virus scan, I run those 2 a couple times a week.
If you don't already have an anti-virus programmer running get Avast anti virus, has auto updating and is really good, had it for years, no probs (also free)

Yes, in fact, there are free programs for both.

One program for antispyware is from LavaSoft and is avaliable for free and can be downloaded off of their website, which is listed below.

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

It's called Ad Aware and, having used it, I'd say it's pretty good and does the job.

For a free antivirus, there's a program called AVG. I've never tried it before, but I've heard of it. It's link is listed below.

Antivirus: AVG Free Edition
Anti-Spyware: Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy

All three can be downloaded from http://www.majorgeeks.com

Keep them up to date and you should be fine.

I have been using AVG antivrus. It's free (the only thing that can be a con is thta you have to update it often, like every 2 weeks, but it's free), and you can download it here:

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

As for anti-spyware, I use spybot search and destroy, which can be downlaoded here:

http://www-spybot.net/
good luck! I hope it all works well.

Update and run your Anti-Virus program. Don't have one? You can run a free online scan from CA.
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx

Run Spybot and Adaware weekly.

Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/... . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.

Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaw...

Now to prevent spyware from being installed in the first place....

Download SpywareBlaster---http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html
SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.

It's main features include:
- Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
- Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
- Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.

i became into applying Spybot seek and ruin to shield my undercover agent ware and Avast for anti virus, yet caught a undesirable Trojan that disabled Spybot and by some means have been given previous Avast. I purely switched to AVG loose Anti-virus. seems working notably stable and has a equipped in undercover agent ware detector. it is loose, examine it out. :) stable success.

Cleaning the register is a good way of improving the performances of your pc and eliminate malwares and trojans. A program I trust is CCleaner http://j.mp/UrAF38
