Actually... Bonus comes from the Latin word for good. which is "bonus, -a, -um" The "us", in Latin, is the ending that shows that a word is male. The -a means that bonus can be written bona when reffering to a girl. The-um means that it is neuter like the elements. This is similar to Spanish senor and senorita two different ways to say something depending on the gender of the thing.

So the "us" is the ending and "bon" is the word
