After twenty five years of married life I'll call it not an institution but a commitment between each other in order to work for the welfare of the whole family. Sharing of responsibilities in between enjoying the mutual love of each other. Representing a family in the society & setting example for younger generation to follow suit. Mutual love, effection, care, understanding, trust increase with each passing day, weak, month & year, how these twenty five years passed sometime we feel it just started yesterday in the year 1982, but when we check the calendar it says it 2007, is this true or a dream ? We are unable to believe it. This is marriage!

Abslolutely correct!!
With laws that are biased where even if a women is misusing to extort and blackmail the husband and his fmaily and to destroy them, Women getting maerialistic, Women getting adultrus, her parents encouraging her to ***** around so that they can get money out of her husband and his family both during their daughter's married life as well as afterwards.
Women might hit back to my this answer - my question is simple if Indian men were so bad how come in the past there were not so many divorces?? Infact a lost of Westeren and other Non Indian Women look upon the Indian Men for their commitment towards marriage and their marital responsibilities.
I to be frank do not even blame the Girl , I mean today's Indian Girl but rather her parents for the wrong up bringing - both Father and Mother Equally!!
and what I have written above is not just a talk in the air - its personal experience - my wife dumped me without even bothering of my son whom she wanted aborted and never breast fed - after I stopped paying her and her folks after having paid them over US$100k which is big money in India and today holding my son at ransom.

Marriage has no other alternatives. Living together or other similar arrangements are not long term solutions for family and procreation. Increasing divorce indicates that more couples are saying good bye to unhappy marriages to find more compatible partners. So marriage is gradually turning out to be more reasonable and logical.

I agree 100%. I was married a month ago and have been shocked in the number of people that treat marriage like a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship that is simply disposable.

Dear Balsubramaniyam, Marriage is enjoyment, charm and happiness but it is cop puled with social and moral duties. Nothing is everlasting and sex too. It is not a recurring thing. Now it is time to discharge your social and family duties. Indian culture do say and it is based on experience.

it's signficance might be diminishing in India's changing times; in the United States marriages are on the increase, not decline and the divorce rate is down as well.

I'm very conservative, therefore think that marriage is a sacred union, and we should all honor our vows to the fullest extent. Divorce should not be an option unless there is abuse, addiction, or adultery.

this forum deals with marriage and divorce 25% of the time. the other 75% is nothing but sex, sex and more sex. I suggest renaming it to sex and fornication.
