I recently re-installed windows and i copied the videos i had back onto my PC and now now when i open a music video it only plays the audio and not the vid. They are .AVI files. Any suggestions are helpful as its really puzzling me. I probably need some codecs but i dunno what ones are the best. :)

Maybe your pc won't recognize the codec anymore. Something similar happened to me. Download a program called Divx and you should be watching the vids in no time.

It's quite evident that you haven't got the correct codecs for the videos you're trying to play. You've got a couple of options to enable you to play them.

Either download a codec pack (I use K-Lite Codec Pack, which I find plays just about anything) ... see the first url below, or download another media player. A good one that plays just about anything you can throw at it is VLC media player. See the second url.

You can, of course, opt for a different codec pack. There are many available. Just look at the list on the left hand side of the page of the first url.

All of these are free, by the way.

What version of Windows and which version of Media Player do you have? There is a feature on Media Player that allows you to download the proper codec you need to display the video file so that you dont have to guess(if you are using the latest Media Player version)

You can download VLC. Here is a good link: http://bitly.com/WhvcgG

VLC (Video lan connect player) is a great free opensource software. VLC has a built in dvd decoder and can play pretty much any media file. Some formats it can play: MOV WMV AVI DVD MPEG MP4 VOB 3GP MPG.

When Windows Media player doesn't work, use VLC.
I highly recommend VLC over any other media player.
