If my son was planning on blowing up a building I would not only advocate but would beat the information out of him myself.

You just stated two different scenarios. There is a subtle difference between him plotting to blow one up and him simply having knowledge that something was going to blow up. Realistically I'm not sure I could answer either. I'm not sure how to confront such a monsterous situation.
Were it somebody else's son, everyone would scream for his execution. When it is your own son, though...
I could never advocate torture for my own child, and I feel pity for anyone who could.

If I actually thought someone close to me was going to hurt people by any means. I would pin that person to the floor and call the cops.
