I have a schedule. I have to show up to work on time, or they might think I'm a flake.

The bus does not show up on the scheduled time at my stop consistantly. This makes me 20 minutes late (the next one is 20 min. later). If I get fired because I'm late often, can the bus company be held accountable?

The sad thing is that I HAVE ADJUSTED MY SCHEDULE and take the earlier bus!!

I am always way early. It's because I'm not a flake that I don't let the bus cause me problems. This is a hypothetical. If I didn't adjust my schedule, I would be late often. It still frustrates me when a bus is a total "no show".

I have to be responsible for me being where I say I will (like work) when I say I will... I feel the bus company should as well. They are experts on traffic and knowing what's "doable". There is no exuse for a bus not to show up at all, or to be 15 minutes late.

You could sue the bus comapny, however, your case would probably be thrown out of court. You would have a really difficult time proving the bus company was solely responsible for your termination.

I wouldn't think so. I would say it is your responsibility to be to work on time. If the bus is late, take an earlier bus. Buses are subject to traffic conditions and are not always going to be on schedule. If it was a train it might be a different story.

First thing to do is talk to your boss explain that you ride the bus and that the bus sometimes run off schedule.
What about taking a early bus?

The bus company is not responsible.

Uh..............No.
The bus schedule is an estimated time of arrival. There are always outside factors that cannot guarantee their exact times.

If this were so, then I could sue the city because that stop light stayed red for too long and I was late for work.

Or, I could sue the drivers of those cars that had an accident forcing me to wait or detour around a different route, making me late.

My advice......pick better battles to fight or take a cab.

no because the bus company does not hold a monopoly on transportation.. Public transportaion does not force you to take it solely. there are other options like drving, biking jogging even walking. unless there is no other mode of transportation and walking or biking is not an option you are accountable for getting to work on time. Plus public transportation enjoys the benifit of a non binding discalimer every time you pay fare.

Can you not take an earlier bus? If not, you should go to your supervisor and see if you can shift your hours to help out. You may come in later, but leave later too. Most managers are pretty flexible.

Probably won't get picked for "best answer", but here goes...

Sounds like you are a flake. If you've missed so much work that you were fired, sounds like you should have played it safe and taken the earlier bus.

Instead of figuring out who to sue, you should figure out how to shut off the snooze alarm.

No, if you know they're constantly late, than adjust your schedule and catch an earlier bus.

Nope you cant sue them because it made you late.

you should account for any "lateness" due to circumstances out of their control (ke bus breaks down, trains break down, blocking tracks, etc etc).

Leave earlier.

No, maybe you should get to work earier. Even if it is a hour early, it would be better than getting fired
