Unfortunately a few bad apples tend to spoil the whole barrel. It is like the other side. Basically good people but a few big mouth hate mongers ruin their overall reputation.
Basically most people just don't care about Jerry Falwell. I, for one didn't know the man. I didn't agree with him but he had the right to his opinions just as I have a right to mine.
I can see where some of his advocacy could stir up controversy. Because of him and his philosophical views neocons have gotten a great boost. Those rejoicing should remember the snake is not dead just because you cut off the head. His movement is still alive and kicking.

He didn't just think abortion and homosexuality were wrong. He has the American right to think anything he wants. His sin against his own country was to call upon others to wage a war of morality against them. How dare he put himself in a position of treasurer and general of what he "thinks" is the American way!
Americans have had enough with bigots trying to define all of us through stained glass eyes.

Mocking him because he was religious? NO.
But I am not upset about his death because I felt it was an unforgiveable sin to use his religion as a way to justify his bigotry and intolerance. He perverted the message of Jesus which was one of peace and tolerance. And the worst part was that he preyed on the uneducated and ignorant to spread his message of hate.

I have a better question. Why are conservatives saying that liberals are celebrating Falwell's death, or asking loaded questions basically saying that liberals will be celebrating? Where's all this celebrating? Do you have links? You'd better have a lot to back up your assertion, since "out in force" implies more than a few extremist loonies, or you'll just look like a liar.

I am not a liberal but I totally disagree with you! The following are a few quotes from this man you feel sorry for. His teachings are filled with hate for his fellow man.
FALWELL SPEAKS ABOUT 911
I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen'.-
- Rev Jerry Falwell, blaming civil libertarians, feminists, homosexuals, and abortion rights supporters for the terrorist attacks of Tuesday, September 11, 2001, quoted from John F Harris, "God Gave US 'What We Deserve,' Falwell Says," The Washington Post (September 14, 2001)
God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve.
-- Rev Jerry Falwell, blaming civil libertarians, feminists, homosexuals, and abortion rights supporters for the terrorist attacks of Tuesday, September 11, 2001, to which Rev Pat Robertson agreed, quoted from John F Harris, "God Gave US 'What We Deserve,' Falwell Says," The Washington Post (September 14, 2001)
The Jews are returning to their land of unbelief. They are spiritually blind and desperately in need of their Messiah and Savior.
-- Jerry Falwell, Listen, America!
The ACLU is to Christians what the American Nazi party is to Jews.

AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals.

God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve.

I AM letting him rest in peace. I don't give a crap that he's dead at all, and I'm certainly not shedding any tears for him.
Funny though, he's getting more peace in death than he ever gave homosexuals in life.

Why lump everyone in one category? Has it ever occurred to you that not every liberal is like that. I did not like Falwell and I never supported him, but I am not going to spend the next week bashing him either.
