Sugar gliders are just one of the gliding possums of Australia and New Guinea. They are marsupials and all marsupials are mammals. Other gliding possums in Australia are the Greater Glider, the Yellow-bellied Glider, the Squirrel Glider and the smallest of all, the Feathertail Glider. The Greater Glider weighs about 1500g, the Sugar Glider about 120g and the Feathertail Glider about 12g. It is illegal to keep Australian gliding possums as pets in Australia.
