Yes you can drink it. It is just untreated water. Be cautious though, many pollutants in the atmosphere often pollute rain water, but typically not to a degree where drinking a little would harm you.

We used to drink it all the time when I was a kid. We captured rain water on the roof and emptied it into a cistern. This was an old alternative to a well. Wells were around long before public water. As others pointed out it is not wise to drink water in an industrial area such as a city but in the country rain water is often far more pure than city water!

I drink rainwater all the time. It flows off my roof into tanks. I live in the country so it is safe. The problem in the city is not the pollution in the air but the pollution on the roof from industrial smoke and car exhausts. This pollutes the water going into the tank and it is not safe to drink although it is safe for watering the garden, flushing the toilet or doing the laundry.

Well, water evaporates into the clouds and leaves all the dirt and stuff on the ground. When it falls down to Earth, it may catch some pollution form the air. Your choice
