Yea ask someone who decides to get a new set or something to show you what they look like after the fake nail is removed. Your original nails get very weak and brittle.

Fake nails are very bad for your real nails. They leave them thin, weak, and dented, BUT only until more nail grows in and then they are fine again. You can tell because after you get your fake nails off, and then they grow back some, the top part where the nail was will be dented and lower than the rest of your nail.

Fake nails don't really damage your own nails... it's the process that the nail tech uses that does the most damage and the abuse that the client puts to them between "fill-ins".

Many techs over file the natural nails when doing the prep work, or were not properly trained using an electric file (those dremmel files). Also, many clients are not told how to properly care for the nails, or just ignore the techs that do advise them on the care.

I've been a nail tech for 12 years, and the natural nail is the most important factor in the process of applying artificial nails. Unfortunately, most clients ignore their "take home" directions, and wind up having damage to their nails because of it.

And the idea of taking your nails off to "breathe" is a myth... nails don't have lungs they are dead tissue just like your hair.

Make sure your tech uses CLEAN files and tools. You can wind up with infections if they don't.

(If I hear one more so-called "professional" nail tech say green nails are fungus I'm going to scream) Green nails are from lifting or dirty nail tools and it's a bacterial infection.

It Depends The Longer you wear nails, the more damaged your real nails get, I still love fake nails though. I get them done every once in a while.

Yes. Just like all other areas of your body, your natural nails need to breathe. No only do fake nails restrict this, this causes them to grow slower. Also, because you actually need your nails for less reasons (because you have plastic ones you are using for support rather than your natural ones) your real nails begin to weaken and get more brittle. In addition when you are taking the nails off, they can cause ridging to occur to your natural nails.

Yes fake nail are bad 4 your real nail. They become really thin and fragile. Even if you always have fake nails you should take care of your real nail.

I have had many sets of fake nails and my real nails suffer for it because of the filing involved in them.

Depends on what you mean by bad. I had them put on once and they had to cut down my own nails and then rough up the tops of them so that the fake ones would adhere to them. It messed my nails up! That was years ago and it might be done differently now.

I wouldn't say they are bad for your nails, but they can damage your real nails if they are not taken off properly...acrylic nails make your real nails grow a lot faster, but be careful how you take them off because that's what really damages the nail.

Your real nails are dead protein cells. Fake nails are not bad for them unless you pull out your real nails while pulling out your fake nails. This is rare but it happens.
