I do not blame 'political correctness'. I blame the idiots who fall for it and grovel over each other trying to more correct than anyone else.

Political correctness has primarily created an atmosphere of intolerance where saying something stupid or mildly offensive has far greater impact than it should. Some people have crude senses of humor, some people like to push peoples' buttons, some people are just jerks. It doesn't directly effect my life because I don't tolerate racism or bigotry, but I do believe in freedom of speech. The old "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" argument. If I don't agree with a person or think they suck, I'm not going to slander them and demand outrageous punishment, and I'm not going to "tell the teacher", I'm going to tell them what I think and walk away. That's what people with integrity do. If more people had integrity and refused to listen to people that say shocking things we wouldn't have to worry about political correctness and the slippery slope it could lead to.

I don't blame political correctness for any problems. I never hesitate to point out what a great big load of non-sensical bullsh*t they are. People can only be truly restricted by the political correctness kick if they let themselves. Nobody puts a muzzle on your mouth, and as much as everyone on TV and radio and movies b*tches about it, nobody actually does anything to seriously protest it. That's ridiculous! Those that allow their expressions to be wholly governed by the PC Doctrine, are just flimsy impressionable morons as far as I am concerned . Those who seemingly have nothing better to do than attempt to 'correct' Political Correctness wherever they detect it are the same, but with an aversion to being controlled. Still no different than those who hustle and strive to be PC.

Political Correctness does not alter the fact that people have a right to free speech and can say anything they wish on any subject they choose even if they are entirely ignorant of that subject.
Anyone can ignore political correctness if they wish, in the same way that Americans eventually totally ignored the McCarthy witch-hunts.
It works. Try it some day. Laugh in their face.

PC is wrong because it gives Power to illiterates.
E=mc^2 is one of the most profound equations ever devised. But a semi-literate feminist has decided that it is a "Sexed equation".
Therefore the most learned Professor of Physics must be careful what he says.
Because Luce Irigaray, High Priestess of Post-Modernism (and probably screaming man-hater) SAYS that it is.Although she has no knowledge of Maths or Physics
That is the problem: some PCer just thinks of something when he/she is stoned and it becomes law!
I suppose that you know that you can be fired for being :
"Too White or Too British"
What raving f**k**g LUNATIC thought THAT one up ??

Why should I have to be on guard all of the time and especially at work when it comes to what I say. I don't understand why I cannot say anything I want to anyone I want without the risk of being fired for something I say, either directly or indirectly. Remember the saying sticks and stones my break my bones but words will never hurt me. Everyone is such a puke.

Its interesting that some people blame the UK government for promoting political correctness, simply because they can't get away with offensive speech or remarks on Yahoo Answers without getting a violation (Yahoo being an American company of course, who have nothing whatsoever to do with the UK government). Just goes to show the low level of intelligence of those people.

May I remind the uneducated that PC is not a law or a bylaw or a directive from high but just a simple label used to describe a method of speech. So saying that this or that is PC is really more objective than subjective. And there are better and more recognised words to describe what you say - better.
so to remind the unschooled , you are getting worked up about nothing really. There is really no real thing called PC. Get me?

It's not "political correctness." Political correctness is a Marxist term used to euphemize the act of appeasing society. Back in the early Soviet Union, any themes or beliefs that were acceptable were considered politically correct. What we label P.C. today is actually a little something called "courtesy."
Who are you to decide what people want to be called. If someone wants to be called African-American, call them African-American, if someone wants to be called white, call them white. If someone wants to be called Bobby, call them Bobby. But who the hell has the right to decide how someone else should be titled. Sure, "African-American," "white," and even Bobby are inaccurate terms. Most "African-Americans" don't come from Africa and most "whites," despite popular opinion, actually have skin pigment. But if Bobby is less comfortable with Robert or Rob or whatever his legal name may be, than no law or logic should defy him that basic right of choice.
Look, names are a two-way process. One person is named, and another person names. But they have to meet in the middle. Asian- and Euro-Americans are widely defined to be Asian- or European-born citizens who currently live in America. Similarly, American-Africans are American citizens who presently preside in Africa. Although this may be misuse, it is much more reckless to wildly dismiss it altogether. You can't go around calling yourself a Diva and not expect to be treated with hostility (or as a pompous whore), but you can't be angry at the fact that someone wants to empower themselves through an amiable pseudonym.
Some of my friends call themselves white, others African-American; some Caucasian, others black. I call myself Hung. Because although I'm proud of my Viet heritage, and I love my America to no end, I exude my own persona, for which exists no more appropriate title than "Hung" (actually, "Hung" and "Mad Baller" are interchangeable). If you see it any differently, well then, congratulations.

It doesn't deprive me of doing or saying anything. I learned as a young child to hold my tongue and to be considerate of others, so I have no problem with worrying about "political correctness".

Very good question!
Political correctness wasn't always a negative term. Originally it meant only one thing...politeness!
What a shame so many people in the UK are no longer capable of simple politeness.
