Do a lot of people who get into acting have any training?

Do the actors/actresses that get famous actually have any training in acting or did they just kinda move to L.A. and start going to auditions and "wing it"?

I think it depends on how you look. If you are homely, short, fat, or in any way not matching the Hollywood idea of an actor/actress, you'd better take a ton of acting lessons and be good at it.

If you're hot, you don't need to be able to act your way out of a box to be a star. I just saw a movie with Anna Nicole playing a helicopter pilot. HAHAHAHAHA!!!

Actually it depends on how you look at it, if you mean training as in an acting school then some people haven't had any of that. I just got into a local theatre and it only took one audition without any training, practice, etc. But if you mean training as in experience then that too not many people had to have their first times acting. This audition was my first too and i got in, but since your talking about the big actresses and actors then they most likely went to a school or college for acting, some also may have gotten in because a sister or brother was famous, take Lindsay Lohan and her sister for example... Some of the people believe it or not that get famous have no experience whatsoever. They may have just got in because they have money. If you really want to get into acting you may want to start with something small such as a local theatre group. Or another idea would be craigslist.com which is where you get to see job areas in acting, fashion, etc. and you send a portfolio and they will tell you if your good for the job. And if you think about it famous people these days don't have to have talent because of the stupid technology, so we will never truly know who has talent in this world... But to sum it all up to your answer, then yes and no, depending on relatives (famous) or how much money you have and things like that.

Most actors start in elementary school and continue, often through college.

One must have a background in acting, as for famous actors you have to ask them. Not all actors follow the same path to an acting career. Eveyone is different. I think I read that John Travola's mom was an acting teacher.

Think about if for about two seconds and figure it out for yourself. It's hard to act. Try it sometime. Tell me if you look professional. Everyone trains and trains a lot. I don't care what you may have heard. Do you personally know any working professional actors? You can't even get in to a professional audition without a good agent and no good agent would sign an untrained actor. Would you?
